On April 15 and 16th we met with 13 Caribbean countries at the EUIPO - European Union Intellectual Property Office, represented by the Deputy Director Andrea Di Carlo,to discuss the potential setup of a Caribbean Regional IP system. Representatives of existing Regional IP Systems shared their know-how on their IP system in order to sparkle the discussions: Diter Wuytens from Benelux Office for Intellectual Property (BOIP), John Marius Kagwa from ARIPO andMnanta Lamatetou from OAPI.It was very exciting to bring my dear colleagues from the African, Benelux and Caribbean government organizations together in one conference to enable an open discussion on the future of the Caribbean IP system, in close collaboration with John Spence from CARICOM: Caribbean Community and and Alexis Downes-Amsterdam from CARIFORUM Directorate. This conference ends the #CarIPI project, under the leadership of Marianna Martini with a big bang! Potentially a new project will start in the next months.Exciting times ahead!Alexandra Mayr, Alvaro G., Ignacio (Iñaki) de Medrano Caballero, Gabriela Y. Rios Torres, Tamara Pierre, Wendy Hollingsworth, Lora Andonova

The Gambia joins TMclassAs of 18 December 2023,The Gambia Industrial Property Office (GIPO)will use and accept the terms from the harmonised database of goods and services (HDB) in TMclass.Following GIPO’s decision to use the HDB, there are now 32 IP offices outside the EU that use and accept terms from this database. The new incorporation of GIPO in TMclass brings the total number of participating national and regional IP offices, including ARIPO, OAPI, WIPO and the EUIPO, to 96.TMclass offers users the opportunity to search for and translate goods and services to and from any of the 44 languages available as well as verifying the terms’ correct classification under the Nice classification. The integration of GIPO in TMclass is a concrete result of the EU funded project called Intellectual Property Rights Action for Africa (AfrIPI), which is implemented by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO)https://lnkd.in/e7jtz6qX

Sweden is globally recognised as a leader in innovation, and the work of the Swedish Patent and Registration Office (PRV) exemplifies how national IP offices can effectively bridge the gap between intellectual property and industry. It was a pleasure to welcome Anna Jardfelt, the newly appointed Director General of PRV, to the EUIPO headquarters in Alicante. Her first visit ever to the EUIPO marks the beginning a series of fruitful collaborations. In today’s fast changing world, cooperation with national offices is a cornerstone of the EUIPO’s mission and will be crucial to our future success. Our discussions underscored the pivotal role of the European Union Intellectual Property Network (EUIPN) in fostering strong connections between the EUIPO and national IP offices. This network is essential for ensuring that our collaborative efforts continue to support innovation and industry across Europe. By working TOGETHER, we can further enhance our collective efforts to support users of the IP system, both in Europe and globally.I greatly appreciated our exchange on the latest developments within both the EUIPO and PRV, as well as on the broader EU policy landscape. These conversations are particularly significant as we advance our work on the EUIPO Strategic Plan 2030 (SP2030), aimed at deepening the collaboration between the EU and its Member States, ensuring that the IP system remains responsive to the evolving needs of its users. Sweden’s contributions to this process have been invaluable, and we are grateful for their active participation. We look forward to strengthening our partnership with PRV and other members of the EUIPN as we continue to shape the future of intellectual property aiming at ensuring that we have a robust, inclusive, diverse and sustainable IP ecosystem that works for all.#Cooperation #EUIPN #EUIPO #SP2030 #IP

Be great where your competition aren't.That was the advice I got from Steen Iver Andersen and Thomas Bjorn, veteran pioneers in the legal/IPR industry, when disclosing that I was starting an IP renewal provider back in 2017-2018. The advice led us to become strong online and not attend trade fairs, conferences and events that exist in the IP industry - No IP STARS (Managing IP), International Trademark Association (INTA) or IP Service World. It was the right call and we advanced because of it. Fast forward to 2024 and we are now able to competing where our competition are safe and the best - at events and IP fairs 🎉 🎉🎉.As a first step in that direction is that we’re thrilled to announce our sponsorship of the !For the first time, the summit spans two action-packed days:🔹 Day 1: IP Awareness Day | Delve into Irish innovation, IP awareness, and brand building.🔹 Day 2: EU Strategy Day | This agenda offers a broader European perspective on IP strategy, AI's legal implications, global IP trends, and more.Come say ‘hello’ to the team and broaden your horizons on September 4th & 5th at #DIPS! A recent agreement between ARIPO and the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), which provides for a bilateral PPH program whereby an applicant can request accelerated examination of an application in ARIPO or CNIPA (based on a corresponding claim set that has been accepted by CNIPA or ARIPO) is an interesting development. It is worthwhile to note that the Harare Protocol already provides for expedited/accelerated examination of an application.
